G'day Reader Sorry for my lack of weekly newsletters and daily LinkedIn posts this year. My Mum passed away early last month following cancer surgery. The last 4 months of tests, scans, diagnosis and preparing for surgery were challenging but it was a privilege to have held my Mum's hand through it. Whilst we run our businesses, life happens around us. Our ability to recognise when we need time away, and to take it, is an important one. Being human means we deal with births, relationships, breakups, burnouts, sickness and death. Our ability to be resilient, and compassionate and show empathy and gratitude define us in these moments. I'd like to share with you how proud I was to see my Mum's resilience and courage over the last few months. She passed away at 86 with me and my brother by her side. It feels so final. None of us will escape this life... so how we live it, who we help along the way and the difference we make, our legacy, seem important. Thank you for allowing me to share this moment with you... ...back to normal newsletter things. If you're stuck or struggling to move forward...,,,it can feel like pushing water uphill in a wheelbarrow! I'd planned to launch a group coaching 'accelerator' style program to help founders and profit-accountable business leaders:
I'm now launching this mid-March with just 6 participants who will co-create a Beta test of this pilot. The Growth BootCamp is my way of providing a business-building solution for smaller business founders and leaders. My 1-2-1 mentoring program is designed for multi-site groups and bigger supplier founders and execs and is priced according to them seeing $100k-$1m increases in EBITDA. The BootCamp is designed to help founders and GMs who want to achieve an increase of $20k-100k EBITDA. The Beta test group of 6 founders starting in March will get:
as their reward for co-creating this program with me. The BootCamp will then be available from April for others to join, just not with the above incentives! If you're interested in being part of the beta test group, book a call with me.
Other NewsCommunity SpaceFor the 3 years I've been running Future of Hospitality, I've been asked many times when will I create a space for some of the 10k+ subscribers to hang out In April I'll launch the 'Create Your Thriving Future' Community where ambitious leaders and career professionals (you or your people) can get:
So, if you or your people might be interested in finding out more about this, pop yourself on the waitlist and I'll share more info during March. No obligation to join - we'll just send you info as it releases and you can choose if it's something you want to be a part of.
I hope you're doing well. In your business, your career and your life. It's never been harder to succeed in hospitality, tourism and food. We've been hit hard by converging crises over the last few years. Many of our friends and competitors went bust and many burnt out. At the same time, there have been almost as many 'new openings'. Many of these sit within the widening QSR sector. Australia and the UK are being seen as good targets for US franchisors. Often with the US concept 'tweaked' for local markets & tastes. Country-wide master franchises are being offered by many of these. Customers are looking for greater value for money. Eating-out habits have changed considerably since covid. Keep your eyes open for what's happening in your area. These bigger groups can open quickly and their brand marketing will be strong and for them, very cost effective across multiple venues. Not only will they seek to take a share of the local (customer) market, but they are also likely to have a professional approach to recruitment locally. We'll talk more about some of these brands in the coming weeks and their potential impact on casual dining and existing QSR brands. I'd love you to act as a feedback loop too, so if you notice changes in your local area, please feel free to share with me by replying to these emails.
The Future of Hospitality is being created as we speak. Let's be involved in its co-creation and not just accept what we're given! Remember, we're stronger together. David ('DC') Carruthers Grow Your Hospitality Business With Purpose so that People, Places & Planet also Thrive:

G'day Reader I want to talk about confidence today and why it's so important to have it. Especially in tough times. "86% of hospitality businesses are not optimistic about the future" was an article I read a few days ago. The survey was for the UK, but let's face it, the same bleak outlook exists in Australia and everywhere except...Dubai (for another newsletter). So, ONLY 14% of businesses ARE optimistic about the future. Are you in the 14% or the 86%. If you have 30 seconds, reply to this...
